Sigma gives us the flexibility to build sophisticated analytics, dashboards, and data applications, while MyReportPortal gives us a simple way to securely put those tools directly into our clients’ hands. Together, they’ve allowed us to turn analytics into more of a client-facing product rather than simply a reporting function.
Newport ONE runs marketing and fundraising campaigns for nonprofits and political advocacy organizations, and its clients want real-time access to their own results. Newport ONE built its client reporting in Sigma on Snowflake and embedded it using MyReportPortal, a white-label, secure client portal built specifically for Sigma. Sigma + MyReportPortal enabled the team to turn analytics into a client-facing product. The shift cut ad hoc reporting time by 88% and contributed to a 200% increase in new client acquisition.
- 200% increase in new client acquisition – Driven by the ability to show prospective clients reporting capabilities
- 33% shorter sales cycle – Average sales cycle down from roughly nine months to six
- 88% less ad hoc reporting time – From roughly 40 hours per client annually to under five
The Challenge
Newport ONE runs email, text message, direct mail, and digital advertising programs for nonprofit and political advocacy clients. Every program is measured by the dollars it raises, so clients count on the team to report revenue, ROI, donor file growth, and year-over-year trends. Routine reporting and ad hoc analysis requests took roughly 40 hours per client each year, time that could otherwise go to strategy.
Analytics is part of every new business pitch, and sales cycles averaged roughly nine months. Prospects regularly told the team they received static CSV, Excel, and PDF reports and wanted real-time access to their own data. Newport ONE had first built a custom solution to embed Sigma dashboards for clients. Larger clients also required custom reports beyond the standard template, which meant embedding more than one report per client.
The Solution
Newport ONE chose to put live analytics directly in clients’ hands, something Collin Ward, Chief Innovation Officer, says many competitors don’t offer. Collin was sold on Sigma within minutes, when the team was close to choosing another BI platform. He brought Sigma in during Newport ONE’s move to Snowflake, so both projects served a single vision for its data. The team built one Sigma template for every client that covers campaign revenue and ROI, donor file growth, and year-over-year trends.
Newport ONE had previously built a custom solution for embedding, but it was narrowly scoped and expensive to build and maintain. They decided to migrate to MyReportPortal, a Sigma partner that packages Sigma embedding into a secure client portal. Each client sees only its own data, and Collin can stand up a new client in about five minutes. Clients get a high-level view with simple filters, while Newport ONE’s internal team drills into granular detail to decide where to invest next. For quarterly business reviews, the team presents a pixel-perfect report live in Sigma, adjusts filters, and sends a PDF afterward instead of building PowerPoint decks.
The Results
Clients now pull their own campaign and donor results on demand. That enabled Newport ONE to cut time on ad hoc reporting and analysis by about 88%, to fewer than five hours per client each year. Moving off the custom-built solution cut first-year platform costs by about 90%. Newport ONE was up and running with MyReportPortal in about one week, compared with roughly three months of development, testing, and setup for the original build.
Newport ONE now demos its client analytics with sample data in new business pitches. In the most recent year, new client acquisition rose about 200% over the company’s historical annual average. The average sales cycle fell about 33%, from roughly nine months to six. Collin notes the timing aligns closely with the rollout of the new Sigma reporting, and clients have said it’s far exceeded expectations.
We found that being able to demonstrate this experience powered by Sigma + MyReportPortal during the sales process gives prospective clients something tangible to see and has helped differentiate our analytics capabilities.— Collin Ward, Chief Innovation Officer, Newport ONE
What’s Next
Newport ONE plans to consolidate more of its work in Sigma. When the team decides where to build something new, Collin says, nine times out of 10 the answer is Sigma. First up is a forecasting app that projects the five-year return on a client’s acquisition spend, alongside planned budgeting apps for revenue and cost. Collin points to input tables as part of why Sigma is the right place to build them.
The team is also testing a Sigma agent in its internal reporting workbook that drafts most of the weekly and monthly performance narratives clients receive. The team then adds the context and strategy behind the results instead of spending an hour writing each one. AI agents are helping the team document a business-critical segmentation app so it can be rebuilt in Sigma.
