If you can envision it, you can build it with Sigma. There's no limitations. And by that, I don't mean just design, but also scale. Its capabilities often exceed what we could even imagine.
SKYGEN USA's customer reporting ran on on-prem SQL Server Reporting Services, embedded through HTML and web frames, a stack that could not scale, support full data exploration, or answer AI questions. By embedding Sigma across its healthcare technology platform on top of Snowflake, SKYGEN gave providers, payers, and members a cloud-native way to explore their own data, consolidated its reporting into one application instead of a patchwork of tool sets, and opened direct, AI-driven answers to executives who had never had hands-on access before.
The Challenge
SKYGEN USA is a healthcare technology and services provider that modernizes specialty benefits, with a focus on dental and vision care, and connects providers, payers, and members through its own enterprise software. Customer reporting lived inside that platform as SQL Server Reporting Services reports, surfaced through HTML and web frames and backed by traditional on-prem SQL Server. The team wanted to take reporting to the next step for customers, but the existing stack stood in the way.
The older reporting technology was inherently hard to scale and carried high maintenance overhead, with no viable path to a true SaaS, multi-tenant model. It offered basic capabilities such as drill-through and drill-down, but it could not support full data exploration, let customers take their data elsewhere, or answer AI questions. Those were significant limitations against the user stories SKYGEN was hearing back from customers, who increasingly expected to analyze data the way modern companies do.
The Solution
As SKYGEN moved to the cloud, it recognized that many reporting products had grown up outside the cloud and did not understand how to work with cloud data. The team gravitated immediately to Sigma because it is cloud native: it uses the backend storage and architecture of warehouses like Snowflake as its engine, then layers its own capabilities on top to make that data come alive.
Beyond raw scale, Sigma made it fast to embed analytics directly into SKYGEN's application and deliver a strong end-user experience, supported by a Sigma team that made the embed implementation successful. Just as important was the developer experience: SKYGEN could roll capabilities out quickly and let customers create their own workbooks and explore data in ways the team had not anticipated. That allowed SKYGEN to support its customer needs through one simple application rather than building a whole infrastructure of different tool sets.
The Results
The shift consolidated SKYGEN's stack and expanded who can use data. Where the legacy approach would have demanded separate, per-client server infrastructure, one embedded cloud-native application now serves the customer base. Sigma also became a catalyst for broader data architecture work in Snowflake, including data mart objects that make the data easier to use and a consistent semantic foundation available in both Sigma and Snowflake through data sharing, so customers get a predictable experience across all of their data.
Access widened to people who had been left out. Executives who once relied on others for answers can now use Sigma Assistant to ask straightforward, direct questions and get consistent results that align with the underlying reporting, a new view into their information they did not have before. Looking ahead, SKYGEN is excited by Sigma's pace of innovation, from quick, easy-to-use applications that capture client configuration without waiting on IT, to letting customers bring their own data alongside SKYGEN's enterprise-curated datasets.
